Session 02 — Day in the Life of a PM

What does a Product Manager at Cars24 actually do all day?

I built this as part of my PM coursework — pick a company, map out the real PM role, and publish it. Cars24 made sense because the used-car market sits at a messy intersection of trust, logistics, pricing, and finance. That’s where product work gets interesting.

A few things that stood out while researching this:

The metrics aren’t what you’d guess. GMV and conversion rate, sure. But the ones that separate Cars24 from a classifieds board are Listing Quality Score, Time to Sell, and Financing Penetration Rate. Those tell you whether the platform is actually solving the trust problem or just moving inventory.

The PM here isn’t just building app screens. A Cars24 PM coordinates inspection, reconditioning, RC transfer, logistics, and financing — across online and offline touchpoints. One bad handoff and the customer’s trust is gone. The product is the process, not the interface.

The hardest challenge is building trust in a category where people default to offline. Buying a used car is a high-consideration, low-frequency decision. Nobody impulse-buys a second-hand Hyundai. Every product decision has to reduce anxiety, not just reduce friction.
